A graduate of William Jewell College, Zachary Frey, D.O., earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and completed his residency in June 2012 through UNMC's Lincoln Family Medicine Program. During his residency, Dr. Frey was selected to serve on the governor's rural health commission, working with communities outside of Lincoln to provide more access and deliver better health care to rural Nebraska.
Originally from Gretna, Nebraska, Dr. Frey was able to get a first-hand look at life as a family practitioner, with his father also serving as a family medicine physician. This, along with his experiences working with various physicians including those in Superior, Nebraska, led to his decision to pursue a career in family medicine.
During his residency training in family medicine, Dr. Frey acquired extra qualifications in colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures. He also has added interest and training in sports medicine having provided medical care for a variety of high school and college programs, and is currently working toward the IMPACT certification in concussion testing and management.
"I love the opportunity to work with all ages and build lasting relationships with my patients caring for them from birth to the end of life. I also enjoy the variety family medicine provides, from preventative visits at the office to performing procedures and caring for patients in the hospital."
Dr. Frey is excited to join Mary Lanning Healthcare and become more actively involved in the community. "It's a friendly and inviting place despite being one of the larger communities in Nebraska, Hastings has maintained its small town feel and is filled with outstanding people."
Dr. Frey enjoys giving back to the community, having been involved with the Challenger Baseball Program for Disabled Children, Relay for Life, and Christ Lutheran Church. He and his wife, Lindsay, have a daughter, Emerson, and a cat, Molly. They enjoy a variety of outdoor activities as well as traveling and attending sporting events.
