Supportive Care
Receiving a cancer diagnosis is challenging. While at Morrison Cancer Center, you will have access to a comprehensive supportive care team. Our team works diligently to connect you to resources at Mary Lanning Healthcare and in the community to support your social, emotional and financial needs.
Members of the supportive care team
Nurse navigator - A nurse who advocates for you, helping translate medical information and making the overwhelming experience more manageable.
Social worker - A social worker evaluates patient needs and connects you with resources within the community; acts as an advocate, providing information about lodging, transportation, home care services, financial assistance, advance directive planning and referrals for additional care needs; helps with applications for Social Security disability, Medicaid, veteran’s benefits and other community resources; and provides support group information and emotional support.
Palliative care provider - This is an advanced practice nurse who assesses and treats symptoms caused by a life-threatening illness. The focus is physical comfort, pain reduction and emotional or spiritual support. Palliative care is intended to provide an extra layer of support during your treatment.
Hospice - These services are available through community partners to focus on patient care, comfort and quality of life when patients require end of life care.
Pet therapy - Local volunteers bring their certified therapy dogs to visit you at Morrison Cancer Center. Interacting with a friendly pup is a great way to promote healing, comfort and emotional support.
