Geriatric Outreach
Behavioral Services provides a Geriatric Outreach Program designed to meet the needs of assisted living and nursing home residents with mental health symptoms. As many as 75% of all residents in long-term care settings suffer from some type of mental disorder, with depression and dementia being the two most common.
Nursing homes face a myriad of challenges in today’s healthcare environment that can affect the quality of mental healthcare they provide. Mary Lanning Behavioral Services has developed a creative, cooperative venture between itself and area nursing homes. Providing licensed mental health professionals onsite improves the therapeutic climate and quality of healthcare available to residents.
The Geriatric Outreach Program offers:
- Psychiatric consultation/evaluation
- Medication management
- Treatment options for residents and recommendations for staff regarding implementation of these options
- Staff development inservices
- Referral for inpatient treatment, if needed
Evaluations may include:
- Mental status exams
- Cognitive assessments
- Behavioral assessmenst and recommended strategies
- Milieu/environment management
- Family consultations
- Management plans of approach
The Geriatric Outreach Program offers an assortment of follow-up services, including return visits, telephone consultations, management program reviews, medication consultation and a 24-hour crisis line.
