Nhon Truong of Hastings

When Hastings resident Nhon Truong talks about his health a year ago, he cannot help but shed some tears.
The longtime JBS employee was unable to work. In fact, the effects of heart disease left him using oxygen and unable to walk 6 feet without feeling faint. Truong said he ended up in the Emergency Room.
He was referred to the Mary Lanning Healthcare Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department. With help from the staff and his own hard work, Truong has now ditched the oxygen tank and is able to walk and exercise, even lifting weights at the YMCA.
“I don’t use oxygen anymore so it’s really good,” Truong said. “If I didn’t come here, I would probably have died a couple months ago.”
Truong recognizes the importance of exercise in his recovery. So far, he has not skipped a day. He said he wants to eventually return to work in order to help support his daughter, who is in school in Lincoln.
He said he would recommend the MLH program to others.
“Yes, everyone in this room is so kind,” he said. “Even when I am doing exercises, they keep checking my blood pressure and pulse. They are very careful so I really appreciate that.”
