Palliative Care Palliative Care is an interdisciplinary approach focused on relieving suffering and improving the quality of life for people with serious or chronic illnesses. Control of pain or other symptoms and psychological, social and spiritual concerns are simultaneously considered to develop an individualized plan of care for the patient.
A Palliative Care consultation allows patients to keep their current physician(s). The Palliative Care Team works in conjunction with the patient’s physician(s) to help the patient and family members define their goals of healthcare treatment and care, and to assess current and anticipated resources to help meet these goals. The team may continue to meet intermittently with the patient depending upon his or her plans and individual needs.
A Palliative Care consultation may be arranged for a patient at Mary Lanning Healthcare, as well as patients in the community. Physicians, other clinicians, patients and families may contact the Palliative Care Team with questions or for assistance.
