"William the Conqueror" – Teresa and Jay Canada of Glenvil
On October 22, 2025, Teresa and Jay Canada’s son, William, was born at Mary Lanning Healthcare without a heartbeat. Here is their story:
“In the middle of one of the most terrifying experiences of our lives, we were surrounded by people who never stopped fighting for our son: The doctors. The nurses. The specialists. Literally, the entire Second Floor hospital staff. Twenty-eight minutes of CPR later and much, much praying with the Good Lord, we were assured William was going to live. Every person on call that day played a part in helping William through those first critical moments of life.”
“There are moments in life when you are reminded how incredibly blessed you are to live in a community with people who dedicate their lives to helping others. We experienced that firsthand. The Second Floor staff at Mary Lanning Healthcare didn’t just provide medical care, they gave us something far greater: time, hope, strength and the chance to bring our son home.”
After being stabilized at MLH, William was transferred to Children's Nebraska. Jay Canada shared his perspective on William's care:
“Children’s Nebraska in Omaha is an incredible hospital...but let us tell you all something: they don’t have a damn thing on our Second Floor team right here at Mary Lanning Healthcare. You fought to save our son’s life. You fought to give him the chance to get to Children’s and continue fighting, and, most importantly, a chance to come home. We will always be grateful for the team in Omaha but we will forever hold a special place in our hearts for Mary Lanning Healthcare and the people who gave our son that chance.”
