A native of Port Isabel, Texas, Janell graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Texas Pan American in 2001. She joined the Mary Lanning Healthcare family in August 2021, obtaining a Certified Lymphedema Therapist designation through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in September 2021. Janell also obtained certifications of Advanced Lymphedema Management (ALM) through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in November 2024 and Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) December 2024.
She is qualified in all aspects of advanced lymphedema management including elastic taping, head and neck lymphedema management, axillary web syndrome, advanced bandaging techniques, postoperative and post-radiation intervention techniques, circulatory and integumentary systems, wound assessment, wound care and more.
To obtain the CHT designation, Janell needed a minimum of three years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. She also passed a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper-quarter rehabilitation. The CHT designation, which is voluntary and difficult to attain, shows excellence in the field of hand /upper quadrant therapy. It involves meeting rigorous standards, developing a long-range career path and acquiring advanced study and training.
Janell also has a vast background in Occupational Therapy, working in acute care, skilled nursing, inpatient rehab, outpatient and pediatrics. Janell worked in Guam while her husband served in the US Navy. She and her husband, Nathan, and have two children, Kendall and Jaxson. She spends her free time with her family.
