CNA — Medical Surgical Oncology Unit
Scott's Nomination Letters:
My journey with this employee started January 24th. What started out as a sigmoid resection, turned into two more surgeries-ileostomy and multiple drains for severe infection with a three day stay in Omaha. Needless to say, I was completely overwhelmed and very unaccepting with my new lifestyle. Physically and emotionally I shut down. This employee was my saving angel. He was there every step of my recovery. He supported me and helped me understand my fears. He guided me with his personal experience in the lifestyle changes I was facing. He helped me accept that an ileostomy wasn’t the end of life, but life changing. We, together, learned my fears and how to overcome them. He has been my dietician but most of all has become a TRUE friend. June 19th, once again had surgery for ileostomy take down. Many of my original fears, concerns, and dietary questions surfaced. He was right there by my side guiding me, helping me and most of all being my FRIEND. His support went beyond a CNA – I will never forget what he has done for me. He was there for my family also. Very supportive of their needs, concerns, and fears. Hands down, he is the BEST!
This employee is a genuine caregiver. He treated my mom like a person instead of a patient. He took time out for her and our family. He made my mom comfortable. He asked her if she wanted to watch TV and helped her find something to watch. He was also changed my mom’s gown and combed her hair. She had been and MLMH about 4-5 days when she finally got this employee assigned to her. He never rushed my mother during her brief stay. He made our family feel at ease enough to take a break from the hospital while he was there. We felt comfortable enough to approach him about anything we needed. He is in a league of his own! He is an outstanding caregiver! I didn’t know this employee until my mom was on 6th floor hospice. He was a light my family needed most during that difficult time.
