Regina's nomination letter:
Dear Mary Lanning Healthcare and the Daisy Award committee, I have been a nurse over forty years at Mary Lanning Healthcare. It has been my privilege to care for many patients and families in ICU and cardiopulmonary. Little did I know, I would be a recipient of this care. On May 5, 2015 I collapsed and coded three minutes after my arrival to work. My husband was notified and arrived at the emergency department very confused and upset.
This nurse met him there and was a great support to my husband and family. Through her compassion, explanations and guidance, I, my husband and family received a calming reassurance throughout my hospitalization in ER, the cath lab, ICU, and transfer to a hospital in Lincoln. After returning home, I continued to receive tremendous amount of support from this nurse, the cardiopulmonary staff and Mary Lanning Healthcare. I received delicious meals, beautiful flowers, many heartfelt cards, phone calls and so many prayers that bring tears to my eyes even now three months later.
This nurse along with another nurse even planted flowers in front of my home. Every day I look at them, I am overcome with thankfulness. This nurse’s outstanding clinical skills as a nurse and manager have continuously improved the department she works in. She has a cheerful presence, a sense of purpose to improve patient outcomes and a gentle kindness yet firm authority to guide staff to excellence. I have learned so much from her.
She is the GOLD STANDARD of GOING ABOVE and BEYOND. I can walk, talk, laugh, enjoy God’s creation, play with my grandchildren and love my husband and family every day. I will be eternally grateful to this nurse and Mary Lanning Healthcare for saving and making my life better.
