A portion of North Denver Avenue between West Seventh and West Ninth Street will be closed for part of the summer to accommodate a Mary Lanning Healthcare project.
The project, set to begin May 28 and run through July 2, will allow for installation of steam pipes under the street from the new MLH boiler plant to the hospital building. The new boiler plant will replace the aging boiler system located inside the hospital.
Brian Hessler, MLH Engineering Director, said MLH paused the connection portion of the project until school was out for the summer. Longfellow School is located on the corner of West Ninth Street and North Denver Avenue.
With school out for the summer, traffic along North Denver Avenue will lessen, allowing the hospital to move forward with the project, Hessler said. Signage will be placed near intersections, parking lots and other areas to alert drivers about the closure.
Ambulances and other Emergency Room traffic will need to enter North Denver Avenue from West Ninth Street in order to access the ER. A gravel parking area will accommodate trucks bringing deliveries to the hospital. Drivers should look for signs with instructions about unloading.
“We are attempting to make this partial closure as quick and painless as possible for our neighbors and the community,” Hessler said.
Anyone with questions about the closure can contact Hessler or the MLH Executive Offices at 402-463-4521.
