Trust. It is something that is gained over time.
It’s why employers like to hire folks with experience.
It’s why actions speak louder than words.
It’s something that is easier to have for those we know well.
Mary Lanning Healthcare has served south central Nebraska since 1915. MLH was founded by local folks for local folks. And even today, MLH remains true to its tradition of being a locally controlled entity that puts people over profit.
If you think for a moment about all of the major changes in the world since 1915, you can start to draw out a timeline, of sorts, of the many things MLH has done to adapt.
Shortly after its founding in 1915, MLH grew with the addition of a maternity wing. In 1918, it was part of the fight against a flu pandemic that swept the nation.
Photos in the MLH archive show the start of rehabilitation programs and vaccinations during times when polio plagued the nation. HIV/Aids in the 1980s, advances in cancer care over the past decade, updated cardiac services and a cath lab, inpatient/outpatient mental health to help when the Hastings Regional Center closed and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic...we have been there to help when in times of trial.
Numerous renovations and building projects over the years have kept MLH current when it comes to technology. We have added specialists and equipment, while making our spaces friendly and welcoming. A long-standing tradition started by Richard Spady of creating healing outdoor spaces for patients, visitors and the community continues today thanks to our donors. We continue to do what is right for our community and those around us.
Most of the time, you probably don’t really think about MLH unless you have need for healthcare. That’s OK. We are glad to say we will be here if or when you need us.
All in all, MLH has remained true to the traditions started by the Lanning family, who turned grief over the death of their daughter into an amazing, long-standing gift more than 100 years ago. We want to make sure the Mary Lanning gift keeps on giving, and we plan to be there for you far into the future.
