HASTINGS — Hastings residents will be seeing some construction activity in the area surrounding Mary Lanning Healthcare beginning in the next couple of weeks.
Mark Callahan, MLH Chief Operations Officer, said the construction, which could take about six weeks, involves properties already owned by MLH. No new properties will be purchased in conjunction with this project.
The project involves clearing areas in preparation for expanded parking for MLH patients, families and employees, and for the proposed Medical Office Building expansion.
Steve Ardiana, MLH Director of Engineering Services, said he and MLH officials have met with neighbors in the project area to address concerns or questions.
“We want this project to go forward without too much disruption to the neighborhood,” Ardiana said. “MLH wants to be a good neighbor, yet provide the services our patients and their families need.”
Callahan said the proposed Medical Office Building expansion, a collaboration with Obstetricians & Gynecologists PC, is still in the early stages of planning. The project would be constructed just to the south of the current Medical Services Building. MLH is working with the Hastings Planning Commission to allow Tax Increment Financing to be used for the project.
More project details, including an accurate total cost, are yet to be determined. But Callahan said MLH wants to make the project as seamless as possible for everyone concerned. That includes adding parking since the Medical Office Building proposal would take a bite out of existing parking.
“Since we are the largest employer in Adams County,” Callahan said, “parking is always something we need to be thinking about. The prep work will result in better parking for everyone. If the proposed project goes through, this will help the construction happen without creating too many issues.”
“The goal of every MLH project is better service to our community and region,” Callahan said. “This is just another step in that direction.”
