Lung cancer.
Two very scary words especially when you learn that the lung cancer is found late in the game.
But a new robot at Mary Lanning Healthcare is changing that game for patients and providers.
Called the MonarchTM Platform, the white, long-armed robot with video-game-like controller is making life a lot easier for the MLH Respiratory Therapy team and Dr. Matt Stritt, pulmonologist.
Dr. Stritt has performed bronchoscopies — procedures that let doctors look at your lungs and air passages — for several years. The new robot, he said, helps him get to more places in the lungs and more easily take samples of tissue needed for biopsy.
The ability to reach more areas of the lungs means more chances that lung cancer can be identified and treated quickly.
Watching the Monarch Platform being tested, it is easy to see that the tiny camera seems to be able to curve and move with ease, weaving its way through a model. So it’s no surprise that this new device will be a game changer for physicians and patients, alike.
MLH is dedicated to creating these better patient experiences right here at home. Game on!
