HASTINGS — A national publication recently named the Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Mary Lanning Healthcare among the top 100 rehabilitation centers in the United States.
Rehab Management magazine named the MLH unit to its “Best of 2013 Rehab Facilities.” Only 10 percent of rehab centers in the nation receive this honor.
Barb Ninabuck, Inpatient Rehabilitation Services Director at MLH, said the unit was one of the smallest to receive the honor. This is the second time it has been recognized by the magazine.
“It is an honor to be included among some of the nation’s greatest names in rehab,” Ninabuck said. The recognition was based on outcome criteria for the unit compared to national results from other inpatient physical rehabilitation units in the United States. Also, MLH submitted a profile that explained ways in which the unit is exceptional.
Rehab Management, an interdisciplinary rehabilitation journal, targets directors and administrators of rehab centers, physical and occupational therapists, physiatrists, assistive technology providers, athletic trainers, sports medicine specialists and other rehabilitation professionals. With a circulation of 20,000, the magazine profiles industry leaders and focuses on issues facing the industry.
Ninabuck said she attributes the honor to the hardworking staff on MLH’s Fifth Floor, which houses both Acute and Transitional Rehabilitation Units.
“Nurses, social workers, dietitians, case managers, physical, occupational and speech therapists — they all do an exceptional job with our patients,” Ninabuck said.
