HASTINGS — The Mary Lanning Healthcare Stroke Program recently was recertified as a Primary Stroke Center through the Joint Commission.
Mary Lanning originally was one of the first Joint Commission-certified Advanced Primary Stroke Centers in Nebraska, earning the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval in 2011. The Joint Commission recertified the ML program in 2013 and now, in 2015.
The recertification came following a rigorous, on-site Joint Commission survey, which evaluated ML for compliance with standards of care specific to stroke patients and families. Mary Lanning Healthcare ranks fourth in the state of Nebraska for its overall stroke care.
“The Joint Commission recertification shows that the ML stroke program continues to make a significant investment in its stroke care,” said Eric Barber, Mary Lanning Healthcare President & CEO. “We strive to provide the best possible care to our stroke patients. Our Stroke Team works diligently to assure that stroke patients receive the proper treatment as quickly as possible.”
The Joint Commission’s Primary Stroke Center certification is based on recommendations for primary stroke centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association’s statements and guidelines for stroke care. The Joint Commission launched the program, the nation’s first, in 2003.
Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve healthcare for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating healthcare organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. An independent, nonprofit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body.
