Sale's nomination letter:
To the DAISY Award Coordinator,
In a time when we often hear about individuals more focused on them, it is very rewarding to find a person that has a genuine concern for others. We recently had such an experience when our paths crossed with a nurse at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. Because of the kindness, patience, and extraordinary compassion that were extended to our family, we would like to nominate this nurse for the DAISY Award.
My grandmother was admitted to ICU on November 15, 2016 after a heart attack. Because of additional health problems, she was moved to the sixth floor. This nurse was one of the initial nurses that took care of my grandmother and family. Because of my grandmother's quickly deteriorating health, there was an overwhelming amount of questions that my family had and this nurse understood this. She was extremely patient in answering our questions and even answered the same questions multiple times. At one point, she took a few minutes to sit down with my parents to assure them that my grandmother was getting the best possible care. The trust that she earned in such a short amount of time was very comforting in a difficult period.
This nurse displayed a sincere heart when she bonded quickly with our family. She was very gentle with our grandmother when she was administering the medication and treated her as though she was her own family. Because this nurse is in the military, she quickly made a connection with my dad as he served in the air force. They exchanged some of those experiences in the hospital room. She spoke of her son, which made a connection with my mother. During one evening, when we were leaving, she mentioned to me that she felt that taking care of my grandmother was a little way that she could return the favor to our family because I had coached her son in soccer.
This nurse is an outstanding nurse and as we are confident your facility is proud to have. We hope that you seriously consider for the Daisy Award. She is a very deserving recipient.
