A physical therapist at MLH Outpatient Rehabilitation recently became a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy.
Cindy Mlady, PT MSPT PPDPT OCS, of Ayr was awarded the professional designation by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties of the American Physical Therapy Association. Specialist certification formally recognizes physical therapists who have demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and skills in a specific area of physical therapy practice.
Ryan Williams, MLH Rehabilitation Director, said this is one of the highest designations available in the physical therapy professions.
“We are proud that one of our talented physical therapists has been recognized with this honor,” Williams said.
Mlady specializes in the adult orthopedic population and diagnoses including joint injuries or surgery, tendon/ligamentous injuries and cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine pathologies. She has been practicing for more than 23 years, 22 of which have been in the outpatient setting and 18 in Hastings.
“Cindy enjoys forming bonds with her patients,” Williams said. “She demonstrates a sincere commitment to pursuing an advanced level of skill with which to best serve our patients.”
Mlady graduated in 2001 from Washington University School of Medicine Program in Physical Therapy with a Master of Science Degree in Physical Therapy. She continued her education, receiving her post-professional Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree in 2008.
To obtain board certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in one of 10 specialty areas of physical therapy practice: cardiovascular and pulmonary, clinical electrophysiology, geriatrics, neurology, oncology, orthopedics, pediatrics, sports, women’s health and wound management. In addition, candidates must successfully complete a rigorous examination, demonstrating specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in their specialty area.
