A Mary Lanning Healthcare occupational therapist recently received two certifications that show her excellence in her field.
Janell Consbruck, who works at the Morrison Cancer Center in Grand Island and MLH Rehabilitation at the Cimarron Plaza in Hastings, received her Advanced Lymphedema Management (ALM) certification, along with Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) recognition.
Consbruck works primarily with patients suffering from lymphedema, a chronic condition that occurs when lymph fluid builds up in the body, causing swelling in soft tissues. Lymphedema is sometimes caused by cancer treatment.
In November, Consbruck received her ALM through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in Houston Texas. In addition, she passed the CHT exam. There are currently 7,570 CHTs worldwide.
She is now qualified in all aspects of advanced lymphedema management including elastic taping, head and neck lymphedema management, axillary web syndrome, advanced bandaging techniques, postoperative and post radiation intervention techniques, circulatory and integumentary systems, wound assessment, wound care and more.
The CHT credential designates excellence in the field of hand/upper quadrant therapy. For over three decades, it has been recognized as a benchmark for excellence in advanced specialty credentialing in healthcare. Hand therapy certification is voluntary and difficult to attain. It involves meeting rigorous standards, developing a long-range career path, and acquiring the advanced study and training required to pass the certification examination and earn the CHT credential.
