Proceeds from the Cancer Walk & Butterfly Release will help fund a recent program to help cancer patients look and feel beautiful.
The Hope & Healing Program, a partnership with the GRACE Cancer Foundation, recently started at the Morrison Cancer Center in Hastings. Patients receive help with hair, makeup, nails, wigs and other services to help them feel their best during or after cancer treatment. Services are provided free to patients, and also include mental health counseling, prosthetics and lymphedema solutions.
The Cancer Walk & Butterfly Release takes place Thursday, May 29 at Hastings College. Participants will meet at the Lynn Farrell Arena parking lot for the fourth-annual event, hosted by the Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation, GRACE Cancer Foundation and presenting sponsor Hastings Ford, along with 38 other sponsors.
Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. with the event starting at 6 p.m. The Butterfly Release, with butterflies provided by Gilead, will take place following the walk at 7 p.m.
The evening will include face painting, a photo booth and food trucks to enjoy. Food trucks on-site include Back Alley Bakery, Fusion Gourmet, Irma’s Authentic Mexican Food, JP Kettle Corn, Mean Bone BBQ, Red’s Country Catering, Special Scoops and Tropical Sno.
Registration is free for cancer survivors or $25 per adult and $10 for children. The registration deadline to be guaranteed a t-shirt is May 19. The Butterfly Release is included in tickets or can be reserved for free as a stand-alone option. Honor and memory signs also can be purchased through the event site.
