Randy Duckert, MD, is a radiation oncologist at the Morrison Cancer Center.
“The path that led me here as a radiation oncologist was long and non-linear,” Dr. Duckert said.
It wasn’t until his third undergraduate experience that he realized his call to medicine. This was because of a young family member who was diagnosed with a highly malignant brain tumor. After job experience in the trades, Dr. Duckert graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1988. There, he developed an interest in malignant neurological disease. He completed his internship at LDS Hospital and residency training at the University of Utah, where his research interest involved abnormal tumor vasculature in central nervous system tumors.
After four years at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, Dr. Duckert took a position at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, where he was medical director of a large, research-oriented clinic for 17 of his 25 years there.
Similar to his MCC colleague, Dr. Jacqueline Kelly, Dr. Duckert spent a short time at MCC and fell in love with the practice. After a difficult two-year decision time, he joined MCC in October 2021.
Dr. Duckert said MCC is a “tip-of-an-arrow, leading institution.” The treatment staff members are superbly trained and couple that training with hometown dedication.
“We are charged with the duty of delivering state-of-the-art treatment in the same manner we’d expect for ourselves and our family,” Dr. Duckert said. “This requires skill and, importantly, demands honesty, and the ability to listen, educate and encourage people with a diagnosis of cancer. At MCC, this is delivered with the heart. The region is most fortunate to have this available in central Nebraska.”
