Genetic Counseling
The Morrison Cancer Center provides genetic counseling services for cancer patients and their families. The genetic counselor helps identify individual patients and family members at risk for hereditary, familial cancer. Assessing this risk may alleviate undue concerns and encourage families to adopt appropriate lifestyle changes, receive frequent screenings and diagnostic tests, and learn about prevention. Our genetic counselor, Bronson Riley, MS, CGC, works in collaboration with the oncologist for cancer risk assessment, education, counseling and genetic testing services.
Genetic counseling includes:
- Interpretation of family and medical histories to assess the risk of disease occurrence or recurrence
- Education about genetic risk, testing, medical management, prevention, resources and research
- Psychosocial support adapted to the risk or condition
