Dr. Mehmet Sitki Copur, a medical oncologist/hematologist at Mary Lanning Healthcare's Morrison Cancer Center whose research and writings have brought national publicity to Hastings, recently added two more authorship credits to his lengthy list of publications.
Copur is listed as a contributing author to two updated textbooks that serve as guides for cancer doctors around the world, Mary Lanning said in a news release.
The textbooks in question are "DeVita, Hellman, and Rosenberg's Cancer Principles and Practice of Oncology," 11th edition (Walters Kluwer), and "Physicians' Cancer Chemotherapy Drug Manual 2019 (Jones and Bartlett Learning LLC). Both updated editions carry a 2019 copyright.
"Cancer Principles & Practice of Oncology" is updated quarterly with late-breaking developments in oncology, including new drugs and clinical trials.
"Physicians' Cancer Chemotherapy Drug Manual 2019" provides the latest information on standard therapy and recent advances in the field. Copur co-authored parts of all chapters.
In addition to contributing to the textbooks, Copur had an article published in the Jan. 17 edition of The Journal of Oncology. A review article titled "Inadequate Awareness of and Participation in Cancer Clinical Trials in the Community Oncology Setting" has been accepted for publication by The Cancer-Network.
Copur's research and insights were taken before a broader audience in January when he was featured in Scientific American Magazine.
Copur came to work at the Morrison Cancer Center in September 2018. He previously was associated with CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, where he was the longtime medical director of oncology at St. Francis Cancer Treatment Center.
In addition to tending his community practice in Hastings, Copur is an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
