Recent conversations between Mary Lanning Healthcare and the YMCA concerning the PAC2 Center building have resulted in MLH agreeing to manage the daycare operation.
MLH has always been the owner of the PAC2 building, 711 N. Colorado Avenue. The YMCA has operated a non-profit childcare center at the PAC2 facility for the past two years.
The YMCA Board of Directors has indicated that the Y will no longer be managing the daycare at PAC2, and will transfer management of that operation back to MLH by the end of April 2023.
Bruce Cutright, MLH Vice President of Human Resources, said that he and Troy Stickels, YMCA Director, are working together on transitioning the management of the center. Details of the transition are still being worked out by MLH and the Y, both non-profit organizations.
Cutright said that PAC2 parents can expect everything to remain the same for the next few months. “MLH wants to make this transition as smooth as possible for parents and children,” Cutright said. “We will not be making changes in fees charged or staffing.”
All families currently part of PAC2 Center may continue using its services. Through this transition, PAC2 will retain its original structure of serving families in the community, as well as MLH staff.
MLH has an employee committee working with Administration and the Board of Trustees on daycare issues.
“MLH will do its best not to upset the landcape of childcare in Hastings,” Cutright said. “We have the best interests of all the families in mind moving forward.”
Planning for the PAC2 Center began in 2000. MLH donated the land for the childcare center. The building, progressive for its time, was constructed using private and corporate donations, and Community Block Grant funds. PAC2 opened in August 2001, serving the community.
