HASTINGS — Mary Lanning Healthcare recently was designated as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG), recognizing the hospital’s dedication to providing and continuously improving minimally invasive surgical care.
The designation, from the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), also was bestowed upon Todd Pankratz, MD, Tyler Adam, MD and Jill Fish, MD, all with Obstetricians & Gynecologists, PC, in Hastings. These three physicians perform gynecologic surgeries at Mary Lanning Healthcare.
The COEMIG program is designed to advance minimally invasive gynecology worldwide and to serve the needs of patients and providers by addressing issues facing the specialty. It provides a way to identify excellence for patients and providers, helps to control care provider costs and outcomes, prevents use of outdated procedures, establishes universal standards to measure program performance and addresses the lack of a central outcomes database.
The AAGL selected Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) to administer the COEMIG program on its behalf. The COEMIG designation is available to surgeons, hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers around the world that provide minimally invasive gynecologic surgical care on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Surgeons do not have to be a member of the AAGL or any other medical society to participate.
Shana Schultz, Director of the Family Care Center/Pediatric Unit at Mary Lanning Healthcare, and Deb Cassens, Director of Surgical Services at MLH, agreed that the designation speaks volumes about the staff, along with Drs. Pankratz, Fish and Adam.
“Our staff is committed to providing the best possible experience and outcome for all women undergoing these procedures,” Cassens said. “Performing gynecologic procedures in the most minimally invasive, state-of-the-art format allows patients to heal and feel better more quickly than traditional methods.”
Schultz said the COEMIG seal gives patients an assurance of confidence in MLH. “We are committed to excellence in the area of women’s health,” Schultz said. “This designation demonstrates that to our patients and providers.”
Mary Lanning Healthcare is the only medical center in Nebraska to receive this designation.
