HASTINGS — A Mary Lanning Healthcare pharmacist, who specializes in antibiotic stewardship, recently was awarded certification as a Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist.
Pharmacist Justin Lane received certification after passing the Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Specialty Certification Examination. Lane is one of only a few BCIDP-certified pharmacists in Nebraska.
The BPS provides the certification to pharmacists who have advanced knowledge and experience to:
• Use clinical and evidence-driven knowledge to develop appropriate antimicrobial therapies to more rapidly resolve infections while decreasing adverse events, complications and resistance
• Provide direct patient care through interprofessional healthcare teams, collaborative leadership of antimicrobial stewardship programs, education of healthcare providers, and preventive services including immunizations
• Advocate for appropriate antimicrobial utilization
• Improve public health by optimizing antimicrobial potential in individual patients and narrowing the resistance trends that occur in society by preventing progression of antimicrobial resistance and infectious diseases
Deb Lee, MLH Pharmacy Director, said she is pleased with Lane’s certification.
“Justin is an integral part of helping patients at MLH who are taking antibiotics receive the best possible treatment,” Lee said. “We are fortunate to have his talent and support to develop expertise in our local, independent hospital.”
