HASTINGS — Mary Lanning Healthcare employees recently surpassed other hospitals in the region for donations of blood to the American Red Cross blood drive.
According to Jeremy Aupperlee, Account Manager II for the American Red Cross, MLH collected 399 units of blood between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019. This was the largest number of collections for hospitals in southwest Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas for fiscal year 2019.
Shelly Thomas, MLH Auxiliary Manager and blood drive coordinator, said MLH employees have a tradition of giving blood.
“For many years, employees have seen, and responded to, the need for lifesaving units of blood,” Thomas said. “And recent numbers have been increasing.”
MLH blood drive numbers over the past year are:
- August 22, 2018: 72 units
- October 24, 2018: 69 units
- December 19, 2018: 66 units
- February 13, 2019: 64 units
- April 17, 2019: 74 units
- June 19, 2019: 81 units
Thomas and Aupperlee said the dedication of employees has been phenomenal, but they still hope to continue seeing an increase in donations. On August 14, the MLH blood drive goal is 101 units between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Please call 402-461-5131 if interested in donating.
