HASTINGS — M. Sitki Copur, MD FACP, received two awards during the annual meeting of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Oncology Research Program, which was held in Bethesda, Maryland, in September.
Dr. Copur accepted a Gold Certificate of Excellence Award as the Principal Investigator (PI) of NCI Community Oncology Research Program on behalf of CHI NCORP (his prior affiliation). He also received a Silver Certificate of Excellence for his individual exceptional achievement on patient enrollments in NCI Cancer Treatment and Cancer Control Trials during August 2017 through June 2018.
Dr. Copur is a medical oncologist/hematologist who joined Mary Lanning Healthcare’s Morrison Cancer Center in August. He previously served as medical director at CHI Health in Grand Island. He is an adjunct faculty professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine Division of Hematology/Oncology. He graduated from medical school at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. He served an Internal Medicine Residency, also in Turkey, before completing an internship and residency, both at Chicago Medical School in Chicago. His medical oncology fellowship was at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, and serves on numerous national committees in cancer science. In 2016, Dr. Copur became a member of an expert panel charged with updating the Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer guidelines for the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Copur is a fellow in the American College of Physicians, and has been heavily involved in research and clinical trials.
Currently, Dr. Copur is involved in writing an online blog for the American Society of Clinical Oncology Research Development Task Force’s Research Community Forum to share his knowledge and experience nationally. The topic of his blog and presentation will be “Clinical Trial Infrastructure in a Community Oncology Practice Setting, How to Get Started and Build On.”
