HASTINGS — A Wednesday flag raising ceremony at Mary Lanning Healthcare will celebrate April as National Donate Life Month.
Mary Lanning Healthcare joins other hospitals across the state at 9 a.m. Wednesday by raising the Donate Life flag to honor donors and recognize recipients of organ donation. The ceremony will take place just outside the Visitor Entrance at MLH. Kevin Bredenkamp, MLH Emergency Department Director, will read a brief statement as the flag is raised. The public and the media are invited to attend.
Last year in Nebraska, 68 deceased organ donors, 191 tissue donors and 38 living kidney and liver donors gave the gift of life. More than 300 people received an organ transplant and thousands received tissue transplants.
Right now, more than 113,000 people are waiting for a life-saving transplant; more than 400 are right here in Nebraska.
