A new program partners the Mary Lanning Healthcare Diabetes Program and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center Endocrinology in offering telemedicine visits.
Pediatric diabetes patients who formerly had to travel for all of their care through Children’s now have an option of telemedicine once a month at Mary Lanning Healthcare. The visits are scheduled through Children’s Hospital. The MLH Diabetes staff helps facilitate the visits.
DeAnn Carpenter, MLH Diabetes Program Coordinator, said Children’s chose MLH because of the already existing program here.
“We already have an established Diabetes Program, and staff are familiar with insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors,” Carpenter said.
The MLH Diabetes Program has provided a telemedicine option for adults since 2002. That program has grown to more than 900 visits per year in Hastings with three out-of-town providers.
Although the MLH Diabetes Program does not schedule the visits with Children’s Hospital (those are done through that clinic), it can schedule patients in the adult telemedicine clinic with a referral from the patient’s primary care provider. For more information, please call 402-461-5318.
