Megan Higer of Hastings

Not many 30-year-olds spend a lot of time thinking about breast cancer. Luckily, Megan Higer did...
Because Megan’s mom had already been through breast cancer treatment, Megan knew what to do when a self-exam revealed reason for concern. The
Hastings veterinary assistant said she didn’t think twice about getting in touch with the Morrison Cancer Center.
Following surgery, Megan underwent chemotherapy with Dr. Soe Min Tun and Carlene Springer, APRN, and has recently completed radiation therapy with Dr. C. Kelley Simpson.
“From the very beginning, I felt treatment was definitely at the pace I wanted,” Megan said. “I feel like when you get any kind of diagnosis, waiting around would have been the hardest part. But at MCC, I felt good to have a good plan and get started right away.”
Megan said she never thought about going to a larger city, and enjoyed being able to work while undergoing treatments.
“Having all the staff and all the treatment options in one spot was so convenient. I felt like I didn’t have to completely stop my life to do treatments.”
“...everybody was knowledgeable about what I was going through and how to treat it, and having such a friendly environment makes treatment easier to handle. It just felt like home.”
