Mary Lanning Healthcare’s Pediatric Unit provides extensive care to children from infancy to 19 years of age. Located on the 4th Floor, the unit has five designated rooms with access up to 10 beds.
Assuring Parents & Caregivers
Having a child in the hospital is a cause of great concern and stress for parents and caregivers. Our Pediatric Unit is designed not only to bring healing to the children we serve, but also to provide reassurance to parents and caregivers.
The staff of the Pediatric Unit is a tight-knit group of professionals who are trained and experienced in every developmental age and circumstance. Half of our pediatric nurses are nationally certified, and every member of staff is dedicated to the well-being of our patients.
A sibling room for families with more than one child admitted to Pediatrics allows loved ones to be together in one room.
Parents & Caregivers are vital to the healing process
Parents and caregivers can assist the healing process by:
- Allowing diapering, bathing, and medication administration
- Helping to reduce a child’s fear of strangers
- Bringing items from home that assist with care, or entertain and engage the child during their stay
Parents and Caregivers can be with their child around the clock, including lab draws and IV starts. Visits are limited during special procedures requiring sterile attire. Parents are always carefully informed about every procedure.
Siblings are welcome except during times when risk of communicable disease is most prevalent (i.e. flu season).
Older children will enjoy our DVD players, an assortment of movies, and handheld games.
Wi-Fi is available with your own password provided by calling the Switchboard Operator.
Partnering with physician specialists
Our staff works closely with local ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) physicians, and oral and general surgeons. Due to proximity, patients of all ages who have had tonsillectomies, sinus surgery, thyroidectomy and other ENT procedures, as well as appendectomies or gallbladder surgery, may also stay in the Pediatrics Unit.
Safe Kids South Central Nebraska Program
The Pediatrics Unit houses the Safe Kids South Central Nebraska program, a community-wide childhood injury prevention program. With support and collaboration from numerous Hastings-based EMS services, Safe Kids provides monthly child safety seat inspections.
If you would like to have your child’s safety seat checked, call 402-460-5884 (choose option 1) to schedule an appointment.
We also provide low-income and at-risk families assistance in acquiring car seats. Donations are suggested.
The Pediatrics Unit can also monitor your child from a distance, gathering valuable vital sign information. Staff is notified if changes are noted. Our staff is Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) trained, and understands the skills required to care for any child in every stage of disease. Specialized and fully-equipped Broselow carts are located in three areas of Mary Lanning Healthcare, with one dedicated to Pediatrics. This mobile cart can be wheeled to a child’s bedside and can be used to determine equipment and medication needs at any given time.
We provide your child with the best care – anywhere!
