HASTINGS — A Mary Lanning Healthcare nurse recently was recognized for her work in infection control and for service to the Nebraska Infection Control Network (NICN).
Janet Riese, MSN CIC, received the NICN Distinguished Service Award on May 6. She was one of two honorees for 2014. The other was state epidemiologist Dr. Tom Safranek.
Riese has been a part of NICN for 12 years, serving as the District 4 representative. Any medical center or organization in District 4, which includes Adams, Custer, Valley, Greeley, Sherman, Howard, Dawson, Buffalo, Hall, Gosper, Phelps, Kearney, Furnas, Harlan, Franklin and Webster Counties, can contact Riese regarding infection control issues. Riese also has been an NICN board member and acting secretary for several years. She began working at Mary Lanning Healthcare in December 2008 in the Infection Control Department and is a Certified Infection Control Nurse.
NICN, which has a mission of “improving the quality of healthcare in Nebraska hospitals, nursing homes and communities, through the prevention and control of infectious diseases, includes representatives from the State Department of Health, the Nebraska Hospital Association, the Nebraska Healthcare Association and the Greater Omaha Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology.
