HASTINGS — Communicating with family in a timely and consistent manner is an important part of providing quality patient care.
Mary Lanning Healthcare recently has partnered with Nobl Health, based in Lincoln, in order to provide the Friends and Family Portal™, a product designed to increase communication between nursing staff and families of patients.
Using an iPod, Mary Lanning nurses update their patient’s condition during hourly rounding. The patient’s condition is securely transferred to that patient’s unique portal web page. Family members have 24/7 access to these updates.
Charlene Sanders, MLH Vice President of Quality, said the new system provides reassurance to families and helps nurses communicate without sacrificing time spent with the patient.
“Hourly updates provide peace of mind and reasssure families by continuously communicating the excellent care their loved one is receiving,” Sanders said. “Families feel comfortable stepping away from the hospital or returning to work knowing updates are only a quick glance at their smartphone away.”
Sanders said staff members have been happy with the product, which was implemented throughout the hospital in May, because it allows them to spend less time explaining things to family members and more time caring for the patient.
