HASTINGS — A new touchscreen clinical rehabilitation platform — the Bioness Integrated Therapy System (BITS™) — is now being used on the Mary Lanning Healthcare Physical Medicine and Transitional Care Unit.
MLH is the first hospital in Nebraska to install the system, which is designed to evaluate and help improve patients who have disabilities from traumatic injuries and neurological disorders. Its main therapies include eye-hand procedures, rotator procedures, rapid eye movement, memory recall procedures, metronome, letter chart programs and visual-motor programs.
Each program has different levels of difficulty. Variables can be tailored to each patient’s needs and paced to be progressively challenging. The result is hundreds of options to keep patients stimulated as they work toward their therapy goals.
The system measures accuracy of hits and misses, reaction time, performance by field quadrant, centeral versus peripheral performance, memory and spatial/drawing accuracy. Reports can be previewed and compared.
Barb Ninabuck, Director of Rehabilitation Services, said this latest equipment compliments the recent renovation and other equipment updates on the unit, located on the Third Floor.
“All of these advances, combined with the excellence and caring of our experienced staff, provides patients with the best possible rehabilitation care, close to home,” Ninabuck said.
