HASTINGS — When Adams County resident Ron Alexander announced that he would no longer be coordinating the Hastings Marathon, many people were concerned about the event’s future.Mary Lanning Healthcare officials have stepped in to help so the event can continue in 2015.
Becky Sullivan, Wellness Manager at Mary Lanning Healthcare, said MLH officials decided to organize and sponsor the marathon, a popular event that drew 350 people in 2014, after Alexander made his announcement. The event features a full marathan, a half marathon and a 5K.
“Mary Lanning has long emphasized the importance of living a healthy lifestyle,” Sullivan said. “Assisting with this marathon is one way the organization can encourage area residents to exercise.”
Sullivan said the Hastings Marathon is a fantastic community event, and volunteer and sponsor support have made it a success.
Planning for the 2015 marathon is just beginning, Sullivan said. Details, along with volunteer and sponsorship needs, will be announced at a later date.
